Many turbo diesel models are fitted with a factory air intercooler to reduce engine intake air temperatures. As with all mass produced cars thought the manufacturer has to strike a balance between size/quality of the components they fit and the cost implications.

By increasing the size and / or capacity of the intercooler on your turbo diesel model you further cool the intake charge which increses power and throttle response and helps offset heat soak so the car's ECU maintains maximum power for longer (when inlet temps. exceed a certain level the car's ECU cuts back power temporarily as safety measure).

On an E46 330 D you can expect around 20 - 25 bhp increase by fitting this uprated intercooler.
